yeah, it has only taken 6 years of ownership.
i finally got the wheels and tyres on my car that i have had for what seems like 2 years now. here is some pics of the process (but none of me freezing my ass off in the semi cold.)
anyways, on with the pics…
stack to compare new and old (new is on top in case you couldn’t tell)
getting ready. i even bought a new floor jack to make things easier. full aluminium and low profile. plus the red matches my car.
before rear tyre width outside to outside (we’ll say 66.35″)
new poke with 20mm rear spacers:
new rear tyre width outside to outside (hows about 69.25″ thats 3″ wider than what i had before)
artsey shot during the test drive
i know its hard to see, but this is from the ground to the front drivers side fender. a common way to measure lowness (or in my case lack thereof) on mkvi’s
and finally, my awesomely sad wheel gap in the front. yes, that is 2.75″ and hopefully when i get some suspension work dont, it will be down to .75″. that should look halfway decent.
and thats all i have. after taking a short drive since putting the wheels and tyres on, i can say that i am both happy and sad to have 18’s again after coming from the relative cusheyness of 16’s i love the fact that these are new tyres, and the stiffer, smaller sidewalls make it much easier to drive. but felling every single bump in the road will take some getting used to again. the real test will be how it drives to work tomorrow morning, as that is where the majority of the miles will be laid down on these things.
so far, i love the tyres again, but ill have to save my full review when i get some more miles on them.
